Why to I see "Search phrase not provided" in my search reports?

For products:
Webtrends On Demand

Last modified: 7/3/2012

Situation:
When looking at search reports in Webtrends On Demand or Analytics 10, the search term "Search phrase not provided" is showing up.

Solution:
In October 2011, Google announced that search phrases would be removed from the referrer for Google secure searches, and that all users signed into a Google property would automatically be redirected to the secure Google search. At that time, the search query parameter (q=) remained in the referrer, but with no value (i.e. no search phrase). In response, we modified Webtrends On Demand to recognize this condition and report the results of these “phrase-less” searches as “Search phrase not provided”.
