Error: "Failed to read a valid system id from the wtMaster database."

Situation:
When attempting to activate a Webtrends installation, the following error message displays:

Failed to read a valid system id from the wtMaster database.

Solution:
Ensure you are running the activation on the computer on which the wtmaster and wt_sched databases are installed. This error can occur if you are trying to do an activation remotely.

A second cause is related to the computer name. Webtrends uses both DNS names and NetBIOS names. NetBIOS names are limited to fifteen characters, therefore there are situations where if the computer name exceeds fifteen characters the product will truncate the name of the computer in the wtMaster database of MySQL or Microsoft SQL.

The server on which Webtrends is installed must not have a computer name exceeding fifteen characters in length.
