Can I use letters for a WT.dl value?

Can I use letters for a WT.dl value?

For products:
Webtrends On Demand
Webtrends Analytics 9.2
Webtrends Analytics 8.x

Last modified: 8/3/2010

Situation:
You would like to use letters for the value of WT.dl.

Solution:
While there isn't technically a reason why you wouldn't use an alphanumeric value rather than a numeric value, and the purpose of WT.dl is for hit classification, this is not a best practice.  If you still need the hit to count as a page view, you will either want to leave WT.dl unchanged or use another method of page view determination.  This won't be an issue on versions prior to 8.7d.  If you do not want the hit to count as a page view, you could still use a numeric value, but make sure it's not within the reserved range.  Thoroughly test any changes before putting them into production.  Additionally note that any changes to WT.dl could impact other reports, specifically custom reports.
